The Story -- The Cartoon -- The Game -- The Rules -- Series Details
This game has been terminated.
Nearly twenty years ago, humanity found out that monsters have lurked in their midst for millenia. A band of ghouls, werewolves, vampires, and zombies known as the Brotherhood of Death had existed for nearly a century before they grew bolder as they drew closer to their goal - total world domination. As they reached the height of their power, they were confronted by a small group of courageous men and women; a secret UN military unit known as the Dark Brigade. After years of battle, treachery, betrayal and death, the Brotherhood was defeated, the Brigade was disbanded, and the world rested easier.
Or so it would seem.
At the dawn of the 21st century, the world teeters on the brink of a new shadow war. Mankind's oldest foes have returned. Who will rise up to combat this new darkness unleashed upon the Earth?
Dark Brigade: Shadow War is a new cartoon series by Pow! Animation starting in 2004! Based on the original Dark Brigade series, Shadow War brings the best in traditional and CGI animation to the small screen. Pow! has radically updated the Dark Brigade for the 21st century, producing an edgier, darker version of the old classic. This is not your father's Dark Brigade! Look for it at your local station, every Saturday at 10pm.
Dark Brigade: Shadow War is an online series (campaign) run on an email list by Eddy Webb, bringing the fictional Dark Brigade cartoon into the 21st century. The game will be run using the Cartoon Action Hour system, in conjunction with the Darkness Unleashed series book and some house rules. DB: MW isn't a typical 80's cartoon, however. It is intended as a more modern, darker, grittier series, closer to action/adventure drama than a campy cartoon. Existing cartoons like Disney's Gargoyles, Batman: The Animated Series, Transformers: Beast Wars, and ExoSquad are good stylistic inspirations. Most of the house rules are designed to reflect both the timeline updates and the style changes to the core Darkness Unleashed book.
Players are strongly encouraged to have both books in their possession. You can play the game without owning them (a brief summary of the core system is here), but character creation will take longer, as well as making it harder to know some of the background of the series' history.
