Omlevex is real?

The Omlevex sourcebook and many portions of this website give the impression that the Omlevex Comics Group and the titles they produced were real, but in fact they are not. We've put a lot of time and effort into making it seem as real as possible, however, as we feel that this level of immersion adds something to the gaming experience. We've done similar things with our fictional cartoon series in Cartoon Action Hour, but with Omlevex we're taking things to a whole new level.

And who knows? Maybe if it's popular enough, we'll start making comics of Drake Einstein, American Gargoyle, Cliffhanger, Lacie Delmont, and Freedom's Trio...

Q: Did Omlevex Comics Group actually exist or is it a sham?

A: Yes.

Q: Come on! Be serious. I really want to know.

A: Omlevex Comics Group existed only in our imaginations.

Q: If it's not real, why do you pretend that it is?

A: To make Omlevex as immersive and vivid as possible. Kind of like how they pretended that the Blair Witch Project was on the level.

Q: Since Omlevex Comics never existed, how did the Omlevex Universe come into existence?

A: It began as the setting Cynthia's gaming group used in their superhero campaigns. The origin can be traced as far back as December of 1988, though it wasn't until 1991 that it became one unified setting.

Q: What's up with the name "Omlevex"? What does it mean?

A: There are three definitions of the word: 1) Omlevex Comics is the fictional comic book company that "produced" titles such as Drake Einstein, American Gargoyle, Cliffhanger, Lacie Delmont, and Freedom's Trio. 2) Omlevex Universe is what we call the setting that the characters in this book exist in. 3) Omlevex is a mineral found in the Omlevex Universe. It is one of the primary causes of superpowers in the setting.

Q: Is Omlevex just another character book?

A: Nope. While the book does contain 45 characters, we present you with a full-blown setting, and it's not just a knock off setting either. First and foremost is the existence of Metazon.

Q: Okay, I'll bite: What is Metazon?

A: Metazon is a ficticious chain of islands located 465 miles off the coast of Florida, in the Atlantic Ocean. It's a territory of the United States, but maintains its own unique governing body. Metazon is actually the result of a mysterious crystaline meteor that crashed into the Earth millions of years ago.

Q: Can Omlevex be enjoyed by non-gamers?

A: You bet! The book is organized so that non-gamers can easily read the text without having to wade through a bunch of game jargon. All that stuff is sectioned off for organization purposes. We wanted Silver Age fans of all stripes to be able to get enjoyment out of the book.

Q: I have no intention of running a game set in the Silver Age. Will the book be of any use to me?

A: Without a doubt! In fact, each of the characters have a section called "Modern-Day Option" that gives you advice on how to use the characters in a contemporary setting. Truthfully, most of them only need minor adjustments - costume changes, attitude alterations, origin switches, and so forth.

Q: I want to run a Silver Age campaign, but I don't want to use the Omlevex Universe. What does Omlevex have to offer?

A: In addition to loads of inspirational artwork, the book is full of advice for both players and Game Masters. Tips for players on creating and portraying authentic heroes and tips for the Game Master on capturing the spirit of the 1960s comics.

Q: Hey! I saw a few things in Omlevex that seemed out of place in the '60s comics - a guy with a pentagram tattoo over his eye, a hero that digests "adrenaline pellets", zombies, and so on. What gives?

A: According to our backstory, the Omlevex Comics Group decided to forego the Comics Code approval in favor of their own "Code of Decency", which was a bit more lax than the Comics Code requirements.

Q: Do you plan to release further books for Omlevex?

A: Without a doubt! We're already planning out the second Omlevex book.

Q: Have you ever considered publishing Omlevex-based comicbooks?

A: We're considering it. The final determination will be how well Omlevex does commercially. If it does good business, then you can expect to see a graphic novel "collecting" the first handful of issues from one of the Omlevex series. No promises though. At least not yet.
